10 Good Reasons to Attend the Drupal Camp Nigeria 2016

DrupalCamp Nigeria 2016

Each year Nigeria Drupal User Group organizes the DrupalCamp Nigeria; an annual, volunteer driven, two-day conference intended to promote the awareness and adoption of the Drupal open-source platform in Nigeria. This conference brings together drupalists, other related open-source practitioners, corporate companies representatives to share their passion for the Drupal project and other open-source technologies.

Here are 10 reasons why you should attend the 2016 camp.

Get a clear understanding of Drupal 8!
There is no better way to learn about the next major version of Drupal than hearing from those involved in its development and by participating in the Drupal 8 focused trainings.
Network with like-minded individuals.
Besides the "hallway track" there are several great opportunities over the course of the two day camp where you can make new connections, including camp day social activities and DrupalNigeria's Mentoring and Collaboration sessions.
Learn Drupal best practices to ensure your successful adoption of it.
If you are evaluating Drupal as a technology solution, there will be various case-study and business focused sessions for you to benefit from.
Join the Nigeria user group community.
DrupalNigeria is one of the most active local Drupal communities in Africa.
Employment opportunities
Companies looking to hire Drupal experts are always impressed when they see potential candidates giving back to the community and investing in their own education. If you’re on the hunt for a job in Drupal, participating in this camp is a great foot-in-the-door.
Collaboration opportunities
Being surrounded by people with similar interests can lead to interesting collaborations, whether it’s help on a specific project, or developing long-term, working relationships with other enthusiasts.
Get specific about your problems
You can bet that the people who attend the camp are there to collaborate and help. There’s no need to skip over the details. Bring your code examples, pages of notes, or head full of questions. Provided you’ve put in the initial effort, the mutual goal is to solve people’s Drupal problems and/or provide direction. Folks at the Drupal Camp Nigeria + PHP Boot Camp have solved some very complex issues on many occasions - it often just takes that pair of fresh eyes.
Hands-on, show and tell learning
Sitting quietly and listening to others demo their projects or outline their issues can lead to major "a-ha" moments down the line. Witnessing someone explain their approach or techniques is very valuable, even if some (or most) of it goes over your head initially. Basically, don't be afraid to show your work - it'll certainly be at least as good at the end of the evening as it was at the beginning, if not better.
Module recommendations
Find out what has been tried and tested, and adopted or ditched. If you have a specification that you aren’t quite sure how to fulfill, others can offer suggestions as to which modules to use and which modules to avoid. They might even show you a demonstration.
Have Fun! Have Fun!! Have FUN!!!
Trashing out bothering issues with others in person will help to get the most out of Drupal, and contribute back to the community by helping others.
